In light of the recent missile test by North Korea, I returned to a previously proposed scenario, that NK is just a Chinese puppet used as a stalking horse to test world reaction to actions that China wants to take while at the same time pretending to condemn (or not) the actions of the stalking horse.
China is very patient and adept at incrementalism. One long range goal of China is the ‘return’ of Taiwan.
The United States now has a President who, I believe, won’t stop China when they take Taiwan. Judging by the world reaction to the missile launch on 3-5-09, China will soon take Taiwan with minimal reaction and no serious sanctions from the UN. The United States by treaty is expected to ally with and protect Taiwan. I don’t believe that treaty will be respected in the coming situation.
